When the Romans demanded that all of their citizens demonstrate submission to the pagan gods by offering incense, the early Christians had to make a decision. Would they serve God or Rome?
Here is a company that has been forced to make a similar decision: whether they will serve God or the federal government. The Hobby Lobby will face daily fines of $1.3 million because of their unwillingness to violate their religious beliefs. They will refuse to provide "healthcare" plans to their employees covering contraceptive and abortion-inducing drugs. The Obamacare HHS mandate requires most private companies to provide "healthcare" coverage including birth control, sterilization and abortifacients, hence the fines. The "Religious Exemption" does not apply to them. Hobby Lobby appealed to the Supreme Court to block enforcement of this mandate, but were rejected. The battle is far from over. They are allowed to continue their legal battle back in the lower courts and could very well come back to the Supreme Court if they lose there. Still, given that we are now being forced to sue to maintain our religious liberties, it is scary to think what the future might hold.
